If you aren't following me on Facebook, I have to let you know that my computer is very sick. It keeps shutting itself down every time I try to do anything remotely labour intensive, which usually includes editing pictures. But today, it was being nice (knock on wood) and I managed to sneak in a few pictures of my latest project - so you are lucky, you'll get three posts today - this morning's virtual cookie exchange, this ornament tutorial, and the link party features this evening (which let me tell you, the link ups this week rocked my world!)
This monogram ornament was super easy to make. I didn't take pictures along the way, because it is hard to hold twine tight and hold a camera at the same time, but its very straight forward. I started with a MDF monogram (this one used to be a hook that you hang on the wall - you know the ones you find in the $1 section at Michaels? I simply unscrewed the hook from the bottom), some twine, a sprig of glittery berries, and hot glue.
It is easier to make straight letters like H, so I had to think about what order I would wrap the A before I started. Here's how I did it:
At the bottom and top of the A, I wasn't quite sure what I would do. First I planned to leave them exposed, because it was too hard to wrap the twine horizontally, given the slant of the A. However, I came up with a solution: make a spiral with the end of your piece of twine - so wrap around the edge of the bottom, and then fill it in. I took a picture, but it is hard to get a close up without losing focus.
It looks perfect on my tree, but I also think it would make a super cute gift topper too!

This is lovely! I think the twine will look awesome on a tree :)
