Conversation Heart Glitter Canvas for Valentine's Day

I loved all of the glitter canvases that were floating around at Christmas time, but I didn't get a chance to make one.  So, I carried the idea over to Valentine's Day... you know I love me a project with glitter!

To start, I created a template with my Silhouette. I created four 6x8 boxes (my canvas was 12x16 and I wanted it divided into four sections), and placed a heart in each of them.  Then, I typed candy conversation heart sayings into each one.

When I create stencils for projects like this, I don't like to use my good vinyl, because it is just getting tossed out.  I often use the contact paper vinyl that you can buy at WalMart and even the Dollar Store.

Once the stencil was cut, I applied it to my canvas so that it created a different "mask" in each section.  The top right and bottom left had a heart stencil, and the top left and bottom right had the heart outline and text stencils on it.

I brushed on regular old white glue, all over the canvas spots that were exposed.  (Tip: Make sure you get the edges - I missed a few tiny spots. Put masking tape or painter's tape around the edge of the canvas if you are worried about the sides.)  Then, I sprinkled on lots of red glitter.  Use a lot to make sure you cover every little spot.   Once the glue is covered in glitter, shake off the excess.  Then, carefully peel off the stencil.  It is best not to let the glue dry, because it will form a filmy layer across the edges of the vinyl and peel off as you pull the vinyl off.  To get the letters off, I had to use my Silhouette vinyl hook.

After, you may need to do some touchups - glitter doesn't get its rep for nothing!  To remove glitter from spots that are supposed to be white, use a small piece of masking tape and dab at the extra glitter, pulling it off.  To add glitter to any spots (like I had to do in the spot next o in the photo above), use a small piece of tape to mark off the canvas part and add a dab of glue and some glitter, repeating the process.

Honestly, the project is pretty quick and easy, but it is highly likely that you will get glitter everywhere!
